Rodgers: Mkhitaryan chose BVB because Liverpool were not in Champions League

Liverpool F.C. Manager Brendan Rodgers commented on why Armenia national football squad midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan did not move to the English club.

In his words, the 25-year-old player chose to join Borussia Dortmund (BVB; Germany) because Liverpool were not in the Champions League.

“This club is a worldwide club — monumental — but we found it difficult because the best players want to play in the best competitions.“Any club will suffer the same when they’re not in there. It can get away from you very quickly. It’s our focus and drive to arrive in it (the top four). I believe if we can get to that level then it gives us a massive advantage as a club,” the Daily Mail quotes Rodgers as saying.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan was the Liverpool’s top transfer target in Summer 2013, but the Armenia international chose Dortmund.
