Thirteenth World Chess Champion, FIDE presidential candidate Garry Kasparov responded to a query as to who he thinks will compete against newly Grandmaster (GM) Magnus Carlsen (Norway) for the title of the 2014 World Chess Champion.
Kasparov is confident that either GM Levon Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the reining World Team Chess champions Armenian national team—or GM Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) may be the challengers of the newly crowned world champion.
“Favorites are Kramnik & Aronian” Kasparov tweeted.
To note, Carlsen’s challenger for the title of the 2014 World Chess Champion will be the winner of the 2014 Candidates Tournament, which will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, in March 2014.
