“Day after day I look upon the value of the gold medal differently. I think this is a dream. I’ll get a better understanding of the value of this medal when I return to my homeland and when I see my people, my relatives and friends.
No victory can be compared with an Olympic one. I really couldn’t understand what was going on. When I watched the recording, I felt I couldn’t resist my tears and emotions,” Aleksanyan said in an interview with Public Television of Armenia.
By winning a gold medal in the 98 kg category, the Gyumri wrestler became the 14th Olympic champion in Armenia’s history.
