Former middleweight and light heavyweight world boxing champion Bernard Hopkins (USA) is holding talks to become a challenger for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Super Middleweight Championship title.
“I’m not retired, but negotiations are now underway,” Boxingscene quoted Hopkins as saying. “Hopefully it will lead into a fight—and that is with the ’68(pound) WBO champion.
“One reason is yeah, I’m 50 and I know that I’ll have a lot of support from people of age.
‘“Paco’ (Valcarcel), the President of the WBO, also believes it’s a fight worth entertaining.”
Armenian boxer Arthur Abraham (Germany) is the reining WBO Super Middleweight Champion, and he recently defended his title by defeating Robert Stieglitz (Germany) by a technical knockout.
