Norway Chess 2014: Aronian loses to Carlsen

Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian faced 2013 World Chess Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway) who tops the World Chess Federation (FIDE) rankings, in the fifth round of the chess super tournament being held in Stavanger, Norway. 

The match, which lasted nearly 6.5 hours, ended with the victory of the Norwegian grandmaster, who tallied 3 points and, as a result, he shares second place with GM Fabiano Caruana (Italy). Aronian—who is second in the FIDE rankings and who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the previous World Team Chess champions Armenia—, on the other hand, remained at 2 points. 

The current leader of the tournament is GM Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) with 3.5 points.In Round 6, Levon Aronian will face GM Anish Giri (Netherlands).
