Candidates Tournament 2014: Aronian vs. Svidler

Round 4 in the Candidates Tournament 2014, which is held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, will be played on Monday.   Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the previous World Team Chess champions, Armenia, and who is second in the World Chess Federation (FIDE) rankings—will face GM Peter Svidler (Russia). The match will get underway at 1pm, Armenia time. 

In Round 1, Aronian lost to former World Chess Champion, GM Viswanathan Anand (India); in the second round, he defeated GM Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan); and in Round 3, he played a draw with GM Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria).Anand currently heads the tournament with 2.5 points, and Levon Aronian has garnered 1.5 points, so far. The GM who wins this tournament will become the official World Chess Champion candidate, and compete against reining World Chess Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway) who tops the FIDE rankings, for the title of World Chess Champion.
