Round 2 in the Candidates Tournament 2014, which is held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, got underway a short while ago on Friday.

Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the previous World Team Chess champions, Armenia, and who is second in the World Chess Federation (FIDE) rankings—is facing GM Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan).

In Thursday’s Round 1, Aronian had lost to former World Chess Champion, GM Viswanathan Anand (India), whereas Mamedyarov had drawn level with GM Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria).
