Vardan Minasyan: I left Armenia national team for my future

A more seasoned coach needs to work with the national squad…A more seasoned coach needs to work with the national squad, stated Vardan Minasyan, former manager of Armenia national football squad.  Minasyan on Tuesday was recognized Armenia’s 2013 Coach of the Year for the fifth consecutive year.In the words of the 39-year-old specialist, he left the Armenian national team for his future.  

“I decided to leave. Spending four years in the [national] squad is not short. The main reason for [my] leaving was that I wanted to develop as a coach. I believe I need a job at club level; that is the road to perfection.    

“[But] I did not work [at Armenia national squad] in vain. It turns out that I have left a mark at the team; this definitely is pleasing. Making the decision to leave the [national] squad was difficult for me. [But] I could not miss this opportunity,” UEFA official website quotes the Armenian specialist as saying.    

Vardan Minasyan headed the Armenian national football team between 2009 and 2013. Under his guidance, the squad climbed all the way to record-breaking 34th spot in the FIFA World Ranking.
