The Spanish Football Federation have reportedly applied in writing for approval from FIFA to consider Atlético Madrid striker Diego Costa for selection to Spain’s national squad, Football España reports.
The Brazilian-born 24-year-old recently received Spanish citizenship and, despite being capped twice by Brazil earlier this year, is believed still able to qualify for selection for Spain.
Costa is currently level with Argentinean international and FC Barcelona striker Lionel Messi in the Spanish La Liga scoring charts, having netted seven times in the first six rounds of domestic action.
