The president of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia, Gagik Tsarukyan, congratulated—in a Facebook post—weightlifter Varazdat Lalayan on becoming the European champion for the second time.
"Another gold [medal] at the European Championships.
Varazdat Lalayan was declared a two-time European champion.
Years of competent and consistent work are yielding results. This is a worthy and well-deserved victory.
I congratulate Varazdat, his coaches, as well as Varazdat's parents for giving the Armenian nation such a son.
Our great victories are still ahead," Tsarukyan wrote.
Team Armenia won 10 medals (2 gold, 6 silver, and 2 bronze) at the 2025 European Weightlifting Championships which concluded in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. Including the smaller medals, Armenian weightlifters return from Chisinau with 27 medals. And in the team standings, Armenia finished third.
Armenia’s Varazdat Lalayan and Garik Karapetyan became gold medalists, Aleksandra Grigoryan, Gor Sahakyan, Rafik Harutyunyan, Anna Amroyan, Simon Martirosyan, and Liana Gyurjyan won silver medals. Garnik Cholakyan and Davit Hovhannisyan became bronze medalists.
