Copa America: Argentina beat Ecuador on penalties, reach the semifinals

Reigning FIFA World Cup Champion Argentina have reached the semifinals of the Copa America football competition being held in the US.

In the quarterfinals, they faced Ecuador in Houston and won on penalties.

Argentina and Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez opened the score in the 35th minute. And in the first minute of added time, Ecuador and Rakow Czestochowa midfielder John Yeboah equalized.

The match ended in a 1-1 tie, and a penalty shootout was held, which the Argentines won 4-2.

Argentina captain and Inter Miami star striker Lionel Messi was the first to take a penalty for Argentina, but he missed, hitting the crossbar.

In the semifinals of the Copa America, Argentina will lock horns with the winners of the Venezuela vs. Canada clash in the quarterfinals.
