Copa America: Venezuela beat Mexico, qualify for quarterfinals

Venezuela defeated Mexico 1-0 in the second matches of the Copa America group stage being held in the US.

Pachuca striker Salomon Rondon scored the only goal from the penalty spot in the 57th minute.

In Group B, Venezuela have qualified for the quarterfinals after two wins. In their first match, they had beaten Ecuador 2-1.

In their second match, the Ecuadorians won 3-1 over Jamaica.

Jamaica and Coventry midfielder Kasey Palmer scored an own goal in the 13th minute. And in the fourth minute added to the first half, Ecuador's lead was doubled by Independiente midfielder Kendry Paez. But in the 54th minute, Jamaica and West Ham United striker Michail Antonio reduced the score difference. And the third—and winning—goal of the

Ecuadorians was netted by Cercle Brugge forward Alan Minda, in the first minute of added time.

Ecuador are currently second, with 3 points, in Group B. Mexico, in third place, also have 3 points. In their last match in the group stage, these two national teams will play against each other, contesting the spot to the quarterfinals. Jamaica, however, have lost the chance for the playoffs after two defeats.
