Chess news involving Armenian players

YEREVAN. – Armenian GMs Sergei Movsesian and Hrant Melkumyan will take part in a traditional great open which will be held on July 23-August 3 in Biel, Switzerland.

At the same time, a round-robin tournament will be held within the framework of the Biel Festival. And World Chess Federation’s (FIDE) top-ranked GM Magnus Carlsen is among the participants of this tournament.
Armenian GM Giorgi Bagaturov (Georgia) tallied 7 points, out of a possible 8, and shared 2nd-4th places at the open that was held in Varna, Bulgaria. Bagaturov became third on a tiebreak.Armenian IM Valentin Panbukchian (Bulgaria) tallied 5.5 points and took 16th place from among 74 participants.GM Ivan Cheparinov (Bulgaria) became the winner of this tournament by garnering 8 points, armchess.am informs.
