Armenian football champions Ararat-Armenia hosted the Slovenian side Celje in the first leg of the Champions League third qualifying round (semi-final). The team, led by Portuguese manager Manuel Tulipa, secured a 2–1 victory.
In the 21st minute, the visitors' 24-year-old Slovenian midfielder, Svit Seslar, opened the scoring from the penalty spot (video).
In the 38th minute, 23-year-old forward Artur Serobyan brilliantly converted a long-range free kick, finding the back of the opponent's net (video).
The Yerevan team secured the victory in the second half. In the 70th minute, 31-year-old Brazilian forward Carlos Franca scored the winning goal for Ararat-Armenia (video).
The return leg will take place in Slovenia on August 11.
The winner of this tie will face the winner of the match between Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia) and Mjallby (Sweden) in the qualifying play-off round.
