2026 World Cup: France secure spot in Round of 32

2022 FIFA World Cup runners-up France defeated Iraq 3-0 in the second round of the 2026 World Cup group stage, securing a place in the Round of 32.

In the match held in Philadelphia, USA, Kylian Mbappe, the 27-year-old striker of last season’s Spanish La Liga runners-up Real Madrid, opened scoring in the 14th minute.

After the first half, however, the match was interrupted due to lightning and rain.

The match resumed after the weather conditions became favorable, and Mbappe netted his second goal in the 54th minute.

Mbappe, who played his 100th match for the French national team, scored his 16th goal in the World Cups, two goals behind the 38-year-old star striker of the Argentine national team and Inter Miami, Lionel Messi (18 goals).

And PSG striker Ousmane Dembele netted France's third goal in the 66th minute.
