My disposition in every tournament is always the gold medal. This was stated by the European silver medalist, 2024 World Championships bronze medalist, and Tokyo Olympic Games participant Greco-Roman wrestler Karen Aslanyan of Armenia in an interview with NEWS.am Sport.
“During the training sessions, I tried to work on the mistakes that I made at the European Championship, in international tournaments. During these training sessions, I was focused on my mistakes. I cannot say what will happen. I do what depends on me, I do my training to the fullest, I follow the instructions of the coaches; the rest will be seen on the [wrestling] mat.
My disposition in every tournament is always the gold medal. I am determined to win at this world championship as well. I have prepared well, and I have a great desire to become a gold medalist,” Aslanyan said.
After losing in the quarterfinals of the Tokyo Olympics due to controversial refereeing, Aslanyan was absent from the wrestling mat for a long time. After returning to the Armenian national team, the wrestler changed his weight class from 67 kg to 63 kg and became a medalist for the first time at the 2024 World Championships, winning bronze.
At the European Championships in Slovakia this April, Karen Aslanyan got the opportunity to fight for the title for the first time in his career, but lost in the final and won a silver medal.
