It was a championship full of emotions. Two-time European weightlifting champion and participant of the Paris Olympics, Garik Karapetyan, who returned home last night with the rest of Team Armenia, told this to reporters at Zvartnots International Airport of Yerevan.
Karapetyan was crowned champion for the second time, in the 109kg weight category, at the 2025 European Weightlifting Championships which were held in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, from April 14 to 21.
“After the injury I sustained at the World Championships, I had a lot of difficulties. I had very little time to train. I participated in two training camps, I had two months to train. Thanks to hard training, I reached my excellent condition and was able to return to Armenia with a gold medal.
My emotions were very intense when I was declared champion because I should have returned with a medal from the previous two or three tournaments, but something was interfering. [But] this time it turned out the way we wanted. The competition was very tough, everything was good. It was a championship full of emotions,” said Karapetyan.
Garik Karapetyan had won the European weightlifting title for the first time at the European Championships that were held in Yerevan in April 2023, where he had set three records, with a combined weight of 392 kg (178+214).
