The Muscovite Armenian tennis player started his campaign in this tournament in the second round—the Round of 16—and defeated Otto Virtanen (Finland), ranked 116th in the world, in two sets—7:6 (7:2), 7:6 (7:3). The match lasted 1 hour and 38 minutes.
Khachanov's opponent in the quarterfinals will be Beibit Zhukayev (Kazakhstan), ranked 213th in the world.
The prize fund of the Almaty Open is $1 million.
