Almaty Open: Karen Khachanov advances to quarterfinals

World No. 26 Karen Khachanov (Russia) has reached the quarterfinals of the Almaty Open in Kazakhstan.

The Muscovite Armenian tennis player started his campaign in this tournament in the second round—the Round of 16—and defeated Otto Virtanen (Finland), ranked 116th in the world, in two sets—7:6 (7:2), 7:6 (7:3). The match lasted 1 hour and 38 minutes.

Khachanov's opponent in the quarterfinals will be Beibit Zhukayev (Kazakhstan), ranked 213th in the world.

The prize fund of the Almaty Open is $1 million.
