Varazdat Lalayan won Olympic silver medal

Varazdat Lalayan, two-time world vice-champion and reigning European champion, won the Olympic silver medal in the weightlifting over 102 kg category at the 33rd Summer Olympic Games in Paris.

In doubles Varazdat Lalayan gained 467 kg (215+252), Gor Minasyan - 461 kg (216+245).

European champion, two-time world vice-champion Varazdat Lalayan lifted 210 kg in the first snatch. For the second approach Pashik Alaverdyan ordered 215 kg. Varazdat Lalayan also successfully lifted 215 kg. For the third approach 218 kg was ordered, but Lalayan could not lift.

Varazdat Lalayan started the jerk with 247 kg. For the second approach Pashik Alaverdyan added 5 kg. Lalayan successfully lifted 252 kg.

For the third approach the Armenian coaching team ordered 256 kg, but Lalayan failed.

Gor Minasyan started the push-up with 245 kg and successfully fixed the barbell above his head. He failed to lift 255 kg in the second lift. 255 kg also failed in the third lift.

Lasha Talakhadze lifted 247 kg in the jerk exercise, in the second lift he lifted 255 kg, he refused from the third lift.

Lasha Talakhadze became a three-time Olympic champion in the 470 kg weight category.
