Lionel Messi, the star striker of reigning FIFA World Cup champions Argentina and of Inter Miami, has set a Copa America record, making his 35th appearance in this football tournament.
Argentina beat Canada 2-0, and Messi provided an assist in the first match of the group stage of this competition being held in the US.
Also, Messi became the first Argentinian to play in the Copa America for the seventh time.
Argentina have won the Copa America 15 times. In the 2021 final, they had beaten Brazil 1-0.
