Armenia’s Arman Tsarukyan refuses to fight Russia’s Islam Makhachev on June 1

Arman Tsarukyan (Armenia), who is No. 4 in the mixed martial arts (MMA) lightweight division (up to 70 kg) of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) rankings, has refused to fight Islam Makhachev (Russia), the reigning UFC champion in this weight class, at UFC 302 to be held on June 1 in New Jersey.

Sayat Abdrakhmanov, Tsarukyan's manager, has informed about it.

Arman Tsarukyan defeated Charles Oliveira (Brazil), who is No. 1 in the aforesaid rankings, at UFC 300 and became an official contender for the title.

"We were offered to accept the fight against Makhachev on June 1 in New Jersey, but we decided to refuse and hold a full training camp to prepare for that fight," Abdrakhmanov said, Match TV reported.

Islam Makhachev will fight Dustin Poirier (USA), who is No. 3 in the UFC rankings of the lightweight division, on June 1 in New Jersey.
