The opening ceremony of the Sambo World Cup was held at Gazprom Armenia Gymnasium in Yerevan. The ceremony was attended by Roberto Ferraris, Secretary General of the International Sambo Federation, Mikayel Hayrapetyan, President of the Sambo Federation of Armenia, representatives of the Ministry of Sport and Sports. About 200 sambo wrestlers from 11 countries take part in the Sambo Association Cup, which is held in Armenia for the first time.
On the first day of the competition the preliminary fight of sambo wrestlers in the weight categories of 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 98 kg and +98 kg took place. Artur Manukyan (64 kg) and Karlen Makhinyan (71 kg) entered the final from the Armenian national team.
Athletes displaced from Artsakh performed under the refugee banner. David Hovsepyan (58 kg) reached the final of Artsakh sambo wrestlers.
