Armenia's Hakob Mkrtchyan becomes 2-time European champion, Davit Hovhannisyan wins silver (PHOTOS)

Armenia's Hakob Mkrtchyan and Davit Hovhannisyan had no equal in the 96kg category of the  2024 European Weightlifting Championships being held in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.

Mkrtchyan won the European champion title for the second time, while Hovhannisyan lost by 1 kilogram to his teammate and won the silver medal.

Hakob Mkrtchyan, the world and European champion of 2019, recorded a combined result of 375 kg (166+209), while former European champion Davit Hovhannisyan lifted a combined weight of 374 kg (169+205).

Hakob Mkrtchyan is the 2019 world and European champion. Mkrtchyan was sixth and Davit Hovhannisyan was ninth at the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

Davit Hovhannisyan had become champion for the second time at the European Weightlifting Championships that were held in Yerevan.

The European Weightlifting Championships being held in Sofia are a ranking for qualification for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
