Benzema repeats Messi's record in Champions League

Karim Benzema, Real Madrid's French striker, scored two goals against England's Liverpool and matched PSG's 35-year-old Argentine striker Lionel Messi's record in the Champions League.

Benzema scored for the 18th consecutive season in the Champions League, Opta reported. Messi and Benzema have scored in the Champions League every consecutive year since the 2005-2006 season.

Benzema took part in four group stage matches but did not score a single goal. Real Madrid beat Liverpool 5-2 in the first leg of the 1/8 finals.

The return leg will be played in Madrid on March 15.
