Barca ex-president spends night at police station

Barcelona former president Josep Maria Bartomeu has spent the night at a police station, Sport.es reports.

On Monday, Bartomeu, Barca CEO Oscar Grau, and the head of the club’s legal service—Roman Gomez Ponti, were arrested on suspicion of corruption. The arrests came after a search of Barcelona's offices.

The Spanish press has speculated that the arrests are linked to funding campaigns to promote Bartomeu's image on social media, and to discredit Barca’s Argentine striker Lionel Messi and Spanish defender Gerard Pique through illegal payments in February.

Josep Maria Bartomeu was the President of Barcelona since 2014, and he resigned in October last year.
