Justin Gaethje, 31, won the UFC 249 interim lightweight title in the fight against Tony Ferguson.
"The win earned Gaethje the interim lightweight championship, but he refused to accept the belt, telling the in-ring interviewer, Joe Rogan, that he preferred to wait for the undisputed title. That title shot — against champion Khabib Nurmagomedov — could happen later this year if circumstances during the pandemic allow," NY Times reported.
The last time Tony Ferguson lost in 2012. Tony Ferguson was initially supposed to fight against Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov on April 18, but the latter said he could not leave the country amid the pandemic.
"There's no other challenge I want right now. I want to fight him."
