The 11th round was played Thursday in the South American qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup of football.

Brazil hosted Argentina in the match of the evening, and they defeated the reining World Cup runners-up by a score of 3-0.

FC Barcelona (Spain) forward Lionel Messi, who had missed the previous games of Argentina, started for his nation and played 90 minutes.

Uruguay, Peru, and Venezuela also won their 2018 World Cup qualifiers in this round.

Brazil maintain first place in South American qualifiers while Uruguay and Colombia are second and third, respectively. Argentina, however, are in sixth place.
