YEREVAN. – The statue of legendary Armenian gymnast Hrant Shahinyan—who was a two-time Olympic Champion, two-time World Champion, and seven-time ex-USSR Champion—was unveiled Thursday in capital city Yerevan.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach, National Olympic Committee of Armenia (ARMNOC) Chairman Gagik Tsarukyan, and the legendary gymnast’s widow, Emma Shahinyan, unveiled the statue which is placed outside the sports school that carries Hrant Shahinyan’s name.
To note, IOC President Thomas Bach and European Olympic Committee President Patrick Hickey are in Yerevan on a two-day visit.
