Justin Gaethje: If I fight again, my opponent will be Tsarukyan

37-year-old American Justin Gaethje, the reigning UFC lightweight (70 kg) champion, has given preliminary consent to a title fight against ranked contender Arman Tsarukyan (Armenia).

"Everyone wants me to fight Arman Tsarukyan, but I have injuries and need time to recover. I haven't made a final decision yet. I am 37 years old; I started fighting in 2008 and have already had 40 fights. I don't necessarily have to keep fighting. I don't know how things will play out, but I will decide for myself.

If I fight again, my opponent will be Tsarukyan. He is the top contender. But right now, I need to rest. I will definitely be the champion by the end of this year, and then I’ll decide," Gaethje said on Andrew Schulz's podcast.

In the title fight held at the White House in Washington in June, Gaethje defeated Ilia Topuria.
