2026 World Cup: Germany lose to Ecuador, Ivory Coast beat Curacao

The nations in Group E played the third—and final—round of their group stage matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. 
Germany faced Ecuador in East Rutherford, USA, and lost 1-2.

Germany and Galatasaray striker Leroy Sane opened the scoring in the second minute.

Sunderland striker Nilson Angulo netted the equalizer in the ninth minute.

And Flamengo striker Gonzalo Plata scored Ecuador's winning goal in the 77th minute.

Germany finished at the top of Group E, with 6 points, and advanced to the Round of 32.

Ecuador are third, with 4 points, and retain their chance for the playoffs.

Ivory Coast defeated first-time World Cup qualifiers Curacao 2-0 in Philadelphia, USA.

Villarreal striker Nicolas Pepe scored a brace.

Ivory Coast finished second, with 6 points, and qualified for the Round of 32.

Curacao finished bottom of Group E, with 1 point, and are out of the 2026 World Cup.
