European Individual Chess Championship: Armenia’s Shant Sargsyan, Haik Martirosyan half point behind current leaders

The 2026 European Individual Chess Championship is ongoing in Katowice, Poland, the Armenian Chess Federation informed.

Armenian GM Shant Sargsyan and Haik Martirosyan have 5.5 points, each, out of 7 rounds and are sharing 5th place.


The tournament leaders are GM Aydin Suleymanli, GM Nikolozi Kacharava, GM Jan Malek, and GM David Anton Guijarro, all with 6 points, apiece.


Among the Armenian players with 5 points, each, are GM Robert Hovhannisyan and GM Emin Ohanyan.


With 4.5 points, apiece, are GM Mamikon Gharibyan, GM Manuel Petrosyan, IM Arsen Davtyan, IM Vahe Sukiasyan, IM Artur Davtyan, IM Robert Piliposyan, and FM Tyhran Ambartsumian.


GM Gabriel Sargissian has 4 points.


Round 8 on Wednesday will start at 17:00 Armenia time.


Eleven rounds will be played in the 2026 European Individual Chess Championship.
