Champions League: Real beat Benfica, PSG draw with Monaco, but advance to Round of 16

Last season’s Spanish La Liga runners-up Real Madrid hosted Benfica, and defeated the Portuguese club 2-1 in the second legs of the knockout phase playoffs of the UEFA Champions League.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 14th minute, as their Portuguese defender Rafa Silva scored.

Two minutes later, however, French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni equalized. And later, Brazilian striker Vinicius Junior netted Real’s second goal.

Real had won the first leg of the knockout phase playoffs 1-0, and this secured a place for them in the Champions League Round of 16 on aggregate.

Separately, reigning French Ligue 1 champions and Champions League titleholders PSG hosted Monaco, and they played a 2-2 draw.

The Parisian club's Brazilian center-back Marquinhos scored in the 60th minute, and their Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia netted their second goal in the 66th minute.

French striker Maghnes Akliouche and Dutch defender Jordan Teze scored for Monaco. Also, their French midfielder Mamadou Coulibaly was red carded and sent off in the 58th minute.

PSG had won the first leg 3-2, and advanced to the Champions League Round of 16 on aggregate.
