Olympic hammer throw champion, Ukrainian athlete and coach Anatoliy Bondarchuk has died at the age of 85, reports sport.ua. He was living in Canada.
At the 1972 Munich Olympics, Bondarchuk had won the title with an Olympic record of 75.50 meters. Before that, he had set two world records in 1969: 74.68 meters and 75.48 meters.
In addition, Anatoliy Bondarchuk became a bronze medalist at the 1976 Olympics, the 1969 European champion, and a four-time USSR champion (1969, 1970, 1972, 1973).
He was the coach of Olympic champion and world record holder hammer thrower Yuriy Sedykh.
