In the first round, the Italian tennis star defeated world No. 140 Mackenzie McDonald (USA) in four sets—2:6, 6:2, 6:1, 6:2. The match lasted 2 hours and 26 minutes.
Sinner's opponent in the second round will be world No. 49 Alex Michelsen (USA).
Carlo Alcaraz (Spanish), ranked third in the world, also had a successful start, defeating Li Tu (Australian), ranked 186th in the world, in four sets—6:2, 4:6, 6:3, 6:1. This match lasted 2 hours and 42 minutes.
Alcaraz’s opponent in the second round will be world No. 74 Botic van de Zandschulp (Netherlands).
The prize fund of the US Open is $75 million.
