US Open: Armenia's Avanesyan, Russia's Khachanov are out in first round

Armenia’s Elina Avanesyan faced     Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil), ranked 21st in the world, in the first round of the women’s competition at the US Open tennis tournament being held in New York. But the world No. 51 lost in three sets—6:4, 0:6, 2:6. The match lasted 1 hour and 40 minutes.

In the men's competition, world No. 22 Karen Khachanov (Russia) faced world No. 184 Dan Evans (UK) in the first round, but the Muscovite Armenian lost in five sets—7:6 (8:6), 6:7 (2:7), 6:7 (4:7), 6:4, 4:6. The match lasted 5 hours and 34 minutes. This was the longest match in US Open history.

The prize fund of the US Open is $75 million.
