The Italian women's volleyball team has been crowned Olympic champions for the first time. At the Paris Games, Italy faced off against the reigning Tokyo 2020 champions, the United States, in the final and emerged victorious with a 3-0 (25:18, 25:20, 25:17) score.
Italy defeated Serbia in the quarterfinals and Turkey in the semifinals to reach the final.
The U.S. team had defeated Poland in the quarterfinals and Brazil in the semifinals.
The bronze medals at the Paris Games were claimed by Brazil, who won 3-1 (25:21, 27:25, 22:25, 25:15) against Turkey.
