Sifan Hassan won first Olympic title in women's marathon for Netherlands

The representative of the Netherlands, Sifan Hassan, won the Olympic title in the women's marathon at the Paris Games.

She set an Olympic record with a time of 2:22:55. The silver medal was claimed by Ethiopian Tigist Assefa (2:22:58), and the bronze medal went to Kenyan Helen Onsando Obiri (2:23:10). This is the first time in history that the Netherlands has won an Olympic title in the marathon. Sifan Hassan also won bronze medals in the 5000m and 10,000m races at the Paris Games. She has now become a three-time Olympic champion. At Tokyo 2020, Sifan Hassan won gold in the 5000m and 10,000m races.
