A scandal broke out over the participation of Algerian Iman Khalif in the women's boxing tournament in the program of the Paris Olympics. In 1/8 finals of weight category 56 kg Algerian Iman Khalif for 46 seconds defeated Italian Angela Carini, who refused to continue the fight after receiving two blows to the face.
Iman Khalif was disqualified from the 2023 World Championships for failing a gender test. His blood testosterone levels were well above the legal limit for women. However, in 2024, the International Olympic Committee announced that Iman Khalif was a woman and could compete in the Games.
After the fight, Angela Carini broke down in tears after the fight and stated that she had never received such powerful punches in women's boxing and had to leave the fight due to a severe pain in her nose.
