2026 World Cup qualifiers: Argentina beat Paraguay, Brazil play draw with Venezuela

The third round in the FIFA 2026 World Cup South American qualifying tournament kicked off Thursday.

Argentina defeated Paraguay 1-0. Lionel Messi, the star striker of Inter Miami, was among Argentina's substitutes, and he entered the pitch in the 53rd minute.

Brazil hosted Venezuela, and they played a 1-1 draw.

In the other respective matches of the day, Chile beat Peru 2-0, and Bolivia defeated Ecuador 1-2.

Argentina lead the current South American standings, with 9 points, and Brazil are second, with 7 points.
