Liverpool suffered a 2-5 home defeat at the hands of Real Madrid.
Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez and Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah scored for Liverpool.
Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior and French forward Karim Benzema also scored twice for Liverpool, with Brazilian defender Eder Militao scoring once.
The return leg takes place on March 15.
