In the 10th round of the Candidates Tournament in Madrid, Russia's Ian Nepomniachtchi (white pieces) drew with Azerbaijan's Teimour Radjabov and now stands on sole possession of third place with seven points.
Fabiano Caruana, who was second, suffered his second defeat. His opponent was Poland's Jan-Krzysztof Duda. Caruana was 1.5 points behind the leader.
American Hikaru Nakamura and Chinese Ding Liren also gained 5.5 points each.
