The Airthings Masters: Aronian is out

The preliminary round of The Airthings Masters online chess tournament ended Tuesday, and the participants of the quarterfinals became known.

Levon Aronian (USA)—former leader of the Armenian men’s national chess team—defeated Nodirbek Abdusattorov (Uzbekistan) in the penultimate round, but lost to Andrey Esipenko (Russia) in the last round, and placed ninth, with 21 points, ending his campaign in this competition.

Sixteen chess players participated in the preliminary round where 15 rounds were held. The top eight advanced to the quarterfinals.

Three points are given for a win, and 1 point—for the draw.

The Airthings Masters is the first of nine tournaments on the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour.
