NEWS.am Sport continues to present its Olympic VLOG program about Armenia’s athletes who have qualified for the 32nd Summer Olympics to be held in Tokyo.
Vazgen Tevanyan, freestyle wrestler, 65 kg category
He was born on October 27, 1999 in the Pokr Vedi village of Ararat Province.
His personal trainer is Rafik Goletsyan. He is not married.
Vazgen Tevanyan is a European junior champion of 2015, the 2016 European bronze medalist, the 2018 European youth champion and a bronze medalist of the World Youth Championship.
His first major experience as a senior was at the 2018 Armenian championship (65 kg).
In 2019, he became Europe’s U-23 champion. In 2020, he scored a gold medal at the play-offs for the Individual Wrestling World Cup that replaced the Adult World Championship that was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In 2021, he scored the title of champion in the final freestyle wrestling tournament for ranks held in Hungary. In the final match, he scored a confident victory over Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medalist, multiple world and European champion Haji Aliyev 9-0 and scored the gold medal.
He qualified for Tokyo 2020 by completing the European zone rating at the freestyle wrestling championship held in Budapest from March 18 to 19, 2021.
Vazgen Tevanyan will come out to the ring in Tokyo on August 6 at 11:30pm Armenia time.
