Superbet Chess Classic: Levon Aronian defeated by Shakhriyar Mamedyarov

In the 6^th round of Grand Chess Tour’s Superbet Chess Classic in Bucharest, Levon Aronian competed with Azerbaijani chess player Shakhriyar Mamedyarov with black figures and was defeated after the 40^th step.

In the first five rounds, the Armenian chess grandmaster tied the matches with Romanian Constantin Lupulescu, American Wesley So and Fabiano Caruana, Dutch Anish Giri and French Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and has 2.5 points.

In the seventh round, Aronian will compete with Russian Alexander Grishchuk.

Grand Chess Tour is composed of five tournaments, and the total prize fund is $1,275,000. The Superbet Chess Classic is the first competition of the series.
