Joaquin Caparros: This is our country's victory

After the Armenia national football team beat Romania 3-2 in the third round of the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, the team’s manager Joaquin Caparros answered reporters’ questions during a remote press conference.

“I really trusted our footballers, but we knew that the challenge was going to be difficult since the Romanian team is a strong team. However, the members of the Armenia national team proved that they feel what it means to be a member of the Armenia national team. I’m really happy that we achieved this victory. This victory belongs to the country and the fans. This is our country’s victory.

Everything was well-organized. In the first half, it appeared that the members of our team were more tired than the opponent’s, which had made significant changes. However, in the second half, we played wonderfully and had truly come out to win.

The reaction after missing a goal also has an impact on the opponent. Our team managed to find the strength inside and gave the right response after the loss. The team wasn’t satisfied with the second goal and tried to score the third one, and it did.

This victory is the whole team’s victory, but, of course, Eduard Spertsyan was very strong and can very quickly become a major footballer for the team. The same goes for Zhirayr Shaghoyan.

Team game is above everything else. All the teams I have managed have achieved success since the priority has been given to team game. We need to be psychologically very strong as a team and individually,” Caparros said.

The Armenia national football team scored its third consecutive victory, leading the championship table with 9 points.
