'Sport for Equal Opportunities' winners Marine Karapetyan and Artur Galstyan

YEREVAN.- Handicapped person who goes in for sports is not handicapped. A person living a healthy lifestyle is a healthy person, said Artur Galstyan, the winner of ping-pong tournament for people with disabilities, on Aug 23 in Mika sport complex.  On Aug 23, British Embassy to Armenia and “Bridge of Hope" NGO, under "Sport for Equal Opportunities" slogan, organized ping-pong tournament between athletes with limited opportunities and journalists.  In women’s competition the first place took "Yerkir Media" TV broadcaster Marine Karapetyan who in the final round won "Aravot" daily journalist Zara Avagyan. Artur Galstyan, member of Pyunik Union of the Disabled, took the first place, by defeating sports director of Public TV Arsen Tamazyan in the final round.  Artur Galstyan, 27, is a sport fan and brings his only son up in athletic spirit.   I’ve gone in for ping-pong since infancy. It’s my favorite sport and a wonderful way to conduct healthy lifestyle. I was glad to find out that disabled people can participate in the tournament. I didn’t have psychological barrier, since I realize I’m a full member of our society. The slogan of the tournament was "Sport for Equal Opportunities" and I didn’t feel unequal. Handicapped person who goes in for sports is not handicapped. A person living a healthy lifestyle is healthy person”, Artur Galstyan said in an interview with NEWS.am Sport.
