I had several theories about my suspension – Mikhail Markosov

By Vera Martirosyan

“I had several theories in connection with that suspension, but I did not say this is a punishment.” Armenian national football team and Russia’s FC Ufa striker Mikhail Markosov—who suspects that he is being punished for accepting an invitation from the Armenian national squad—told this to NEWS.am Sport

As informed earlier, the Russian Football Union Disciplinary Committee extended Markosov’s suspension to six games for his collision with FC Sibir Novosibirsk goalkeeper Ilya Trunin. The Armenian international, however, does not consider himself to be at fault, and notes that he had not seen the goalkeeper before the collision, Sportbox.ru reported.

In your interview with Sportbox.ru, you said the extension of your suspension could be due to your decision to join the Armenian [national] team, and this is a punishment.

I am guessing that someone could have gotten angry at me for this [decision]. I had several theories in connection with that suspension, but I did not say this is a punishment. But maybe some people did not like this [decision].

Have you spoken with representatives from the Football Federation of Armenia? The team is expected to play two games soon.

No. I am not in such good form, now. In all likelihood, that silence is logical.

Are you preparing to extend your contract with Ufa?

We are in that process, now. I have not received offers from other clubs.
