World kickboxing champion Vahe Sahakyan to visit Armenia

A 18-year-old world heavyweight kickboxing champion of Armenian descent Vahe Sahakyan (110 Kos, 8-1), presenting the U.S., will fight in WKA championships in Virginia. Another fight is scheduled for Sept. 22

Sahakyan was born in Yerevan, but his family moved to the U.S. back in 2005, he said in an interview with NEWS.am Sport correspondent.

The young Armenian started to train in a well-known Lions Martial Arts Center in Brooklyn under the guidance of his father Artyom Sahakyan, who is also the head coach of the U.S. kickboxing team and Euroasia President of World Kickboxing association (WKA).

In addition, Sahakyan won two world kickboxing titles at the age of 18. Sahakyan, starting as a kickboxer, became the U.S. and also the WKA champion in 2010. In general, he fights in tournaments of K-1 rules and continues to get trained in martial arts.

Despite the champion represents America, he often waves the Armenian flag during the tournaments.

“I appeared in the medal podium with the American flag on my shoulders, and the Armenian one in my heart,” Vahe said adding he is going to visit Armenia in summer and hold seminars with the Armenian students of Yerevan branch of Lions Martial Arts Center.
