Jose Mourinho identifies Inter midfielder Joao Mario as Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s replacement at Manchester United

Jose Mourinho is keen to sign Inter midfielder Joao Mario as a replacement for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to reports in Italy. The Armenia international has been left out of United’s squad by Mourinho in all but one of the club’s last seven fixtures.

And it’s been claimed that Mkhitaryan has demanded showdown talks with the United manager after he was omitted from the squad for the Manchester derby on Sunday. Corriere dello Sport report that Mourinho is now looking at bolstering his midfield options in the January transfer window and has identified Joao Mario as a signing who could make an impact.

The report claims that the idea of a swap deal between United and Inter has been considered, with Mkhitaryan moving to San Siro on loan until the end of the campaign.
